Veteran Intel executive set to retire next year

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Long-time Intel executive Sean Maloney plans to retire from the computer-chip maker at the beginning of next year.

Maloney, 56, will end his 30 years at Intel Corp. in January, the company said Wednesday.

During his Intel career, Maloney has worked around the world and held a wide range of jobs.

Maloney has been executive vice president and chairman of Intel China for the past 14 months. Previously, he worked for Intel in Europe, Hong Kong and the U.S.

His responsibilities have included sales and marketing, mobility products and technical assistant to former Intel CEO Andrew Grove.

"Sean is a well-known visionary for Intel and the computing industry," Intel's current CEO, Paul Otellini, said in a statement.

Maloney suffered a stroke in February 2010, forcing him to take a medical leave of absence to regain his speech and health.
