UPGRADED MAPS: Google is adding several new features to make its digital maps more comprehensive, compelling and convenient. The improvements include better three-dimensional views of major cities and an option that will give offline access to maps for users of mobile devices running on Google's Android software.
POSSIBLE SETBACK: The coming attractions were previewed Wednesday amid reports that Google's maps are about to dumped as the built-in navigation service on Apple's iPhones and iPads.
THE HIDDEN MESSAGE: Google Inc. appears to be trying to show how difficult it will be for Apple Inc. to top its mapping service.
