FINANCIAL TROUBLE: Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video gaming company filed for bankruptcy protection.
STATE REPONSE: Rhode Island's governor is promising to try to salvage at least some of the state's $75 million investment in that company.
THE BACKDROP: The company was lured to Providence from Massachusetts in 2010 when Rhode Island officials offered a $75 million loan guarantee. Federal authorities say they've begun an investigation into the firm.
