SETTLEMENT: New York officials say three Asia-based companies have agreed to pay $571 million to settle claims in eight states that they conspired to inflate prices for liquid crystal display screens used in televisions and computer monitors.
THE PARTIES: The three companies are AU Optronics Corp., LG Display Co. Ltd. and Toshiba Corp. and include U.S. affiliates. The eight states involved in the lawsuit are Arkansas, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New York, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
THE IMPACT: Consumers in 24 states will be eligible for partial refunds after court approval.
