A look at cable, satellite TV earnings reports

Here is a summary of earnings reports for selected cable and satellite TV companies and what they reveal about the industry's prospects:
April 19: Verizon Communications Inc. added 180,000 FiOS video customers to end the quarter with 4.4 million.
April 24: AT&T Inc. added 200,000 U-verse TV customers to reach 4 million.
April 26: Time Warner Cable Inc. added a net 592,000 cable TV customers, mainly through the acquisition of Insight Communications, a cable TV company with customers in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. That deal closed in February.
May 2: Comcast Corp. says it lost 37,000 cable subscribers, roughly the same number it lost in the same quarter last year. It ends the quarter with 22.3 million.
May 3: Cablevision Systems Corp. says it added 7,000 TV subscribers in the first quarter, to end at 3.26 million. It was the first TV subscriber for the company in two years.
May 7: Dish Network Corp. says it gained 104,000 subscribers to end with 14.1 million.
May 8: DirecTV Inc. says it gained 81,000 subscribers in the U.S. to end with 20 million. In Latin America, it gained 593,000 to end with 8.5 million.
Charter Communications Inc. says it added 27,000 video customers to end with 4.3 million.
