HTC unveils Windows Phone 8X and 8S

HTC announced a new Windows Phone lineup to its fall collection this morning in its press conference in New York City. Known as the HTC Windows Phone 8X and HTC Windows Phone 8S, the two handsets are HTC's first venture into the Windows 8 platform, and are set to target both the mid-range and high-end spectrum of customers.

The HTC Windows Phone 8X will be the more advanced of the two, sporting a sleek blue body and HTC's Beats Audio integration. The brightly colored phone will come with a 4.3-inch Super LCD 2 screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution, coated with Gorilla Glass 2. The 8X will also run on a dual-core 1.5GHx Snapdragon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM with 16GB of storage. For those looking to sample Windows Phone in the states, you'll be glad to know that the 8X will indeed support LTE connectivity.

Like the One series, which came equipped with impressive camera specs, the Windows Phone 8X will also sport an 8-megapixel rear facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front facer with f/2.0 aperture and 88-degree ultra-wide angle. The camera is also equipped with LED flash and 1080p video capture capabilities.

For those looking for a more modest version of Windows Phone 8, HTC also unveiled the 8S, which is a 4-incher with 512MB of RAM and a dual-core S4 processor. Internal storage comes in at 4GB and the rear camera is limited to 5-megapixels and 720p video capture. No front-facing camera is to be found on the 8S.

Targeting a playful audience much like the colorful Windows 8 interface itself (and Nokia's Lumia lineup), both the 8X and 8S will come available in an array of colors such as California Blue, Graphite Black, Flame Red, and Limelight Yellow and ships in November. Pricing information is currently unavailable.

HTC is calling this "the signature phones of Windows Phone 8," clearly in big competition against the also-vibrant line of Nokia Lumia's announced two weeks prior.
