Young Chiefs Balance Hockey, School In Quest for Boyhood Dream

It can be easy to forget that, after all, many of the Spokane Chiefs are not only hockey players, but students as well.

Like defenceman Jeremy McIntosh, who has been skating since he was three-years-old and playing hockey since he was five.

"It's every kids' dream when they first strap on the skates and when you go watch a Flames game – the Calgary Flames are my hometown. You go watch one of those games and you dream of being out there as a little kid. It's what I've grown up wanting, and hopefully I'll accomplish it."

While in Spokane not only does he attend practice every day, he attends school three hours a day at Ferris High. His classes, including Sports Marketing, go towards earning a high school diploma.

"It's three hours out of the day you focus on school, and then when you get to the rink you change your mindset to hockey," said McIntosh.

After school, and after practice, McIntosh plays the roll of big brother. He and another teammate live with a host family in Spokane during the season.
