TEMPE, Ariz. – Ryan Kellogg gave up one run in seven innings to earn the win as No. 14 Arizona State a 4-1 victory over visiting Washington State, Saturday night at Packard Stadium.

The Sun Devils (11-3-1, 1-1 Pac-12) and Cougars (10-7, 1-1 Pac-12) have split the first-two games of the conference-opening series. The rubber match-up is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., Sunday.

Each team scored a run in the first inning. Trek Stemp led off with a single for the Cougars. After two ground outs moved Stemp to third, Yale Rosen singled to give Washington State a 1-0 lead against Kellogg (4-0).

The Sun Devils responded with a run in the bottom of the first against Washington State's Tanner Chleborad (2-3) on a walk, single and fielder's choice. In the third, Arizona State scored three runs on three hits and a Cougar error to snap the 1-1 tie.

The biggest threat by Washington State after falling behind was in the eighth when the Cougars put runners at the corners with two outs. Arizona State reliever Matt Dunbar struck out Jason Monda to end the inning.
