COLORADO SPRINGS -- The Washington State volleyball team (8-2) swept by Norfolk State (2-9) early Friday afternoon with set scores of 25-14, 25-15. and 25-13 at the Air Force Academy Invitational tournament in Colorado Springs.

Jaicee Harris led the match with 13 kills (.360) and three blocks while Marcelina Glab had seven kills (.357) and four blocks. Rachel Todorovich added six kills and hit .625. Stephanie Logan and Ver'Leea Hardaway each had five blocks with Logan also landing five kills. Kate Sommer tallied six digs and Camryn Irwin set up 29 assists. Shawna Lum and Sommer each landed a pair of aces. WSU hit .400 for the match and has won 21 of the last 22 sets played.

Norfolk State was led by the eight kills from Jessica Johnson as Darcy Moore had 19 assists and two service aces. Coralie Jarema added three blocks and two aces and Adriana Ramos led the team with four digs. NSU hit -.056 for the match.

"It took us a while to get going and I don't know if that was because it was an early match of getting used to their style of play but we did a great job overall," Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny said. "We need to make some adjustments a little quicker as we move forward. I think our hitters did a great job of keeping the ball in play and putting the ball away and Camryn did a nice job of distributing once again. Hitting .400 is a great match overall but we are going to have to pick up our overall intensity this evening against Bakersfield."

WSU led from the first serve in the opening set. The Spartans tied it early at 3 points each and then the Cougars moved through to take the 25-14 win. Todorovich, Logan and Harris combined for 10 kills as WSU hit .364 and held Norfolk State to a -.120 hitting percentage.

The second set began with the Cougars running up a 9-1 lead and had no trouble advancing to the 25-15 win. WSU hit .364 again but Norfolk State improved to a .048 hitting percentage.

There was one tie and one lead change early in the third set but WSU controlled the set hitting .462 to Norfolk State's -.077.

Later Friday at the Air Force Academy Invitational WSU plays CSU Bakersfield for the second time in as many weekends, and then meets host Air Force Academy Saturday at 6 p.m.
