The Shock have been assigned wide receiver Steven Black to the 2013 roster. Black has agreed to a one-year deal with Spokane for the 2013 AFL season.

Black, a native of Birmingham, AL and graduate of Memphis, joined the Shock for his rookie AFL season after spending time with the CFL's BC Lions. In 2012 with Spokane, Steven was third on the team in receptions (67), yardage (770), and receiving touchdowns (15).

During his senior season at Memphis in 2008, Black was third on the team in receptions (36) and fourth in receiving yards (286). Against Tulane, he became the first Tiger since 2006 to rush for three touchdowns in a single game. As a junior in 2007, Steven posted his most productive season as he played every game in the season and registered 42 receptions for 477 yards and a touchdown. Prior to attending Memphis, Steven spent two years at East Mississippi Community College where he racked up 30 receptions for 481 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore and was listed by Rivals.com as one of the top 100 junior college recruits as he was a part of an offense that was ranked fifth in total offense per game (312 yards/gm). Steven spent his prep career at Vestavia Hills High School where he tallied 41 receptions for 802 yards and seven receiving touchdowns as a senior.

"Steven Black is a very strong and physical wide receiver that has the ability to stretch the field as well as run the possession routes over the middle of the field. He really started to pick things up toward the end of his rookie season in the AFL and we're looking forward to his continued development going into 2013," said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson.
