Spokane Chiefs Release Goaltender

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs have announced that 19-year-old goaltender Mac Engel has been released and is awaiting a trade to another WHL team.

Engel went 42-28-3-4 as a Chief in 88 career appearances.  In 2011-12, Engel went 28-19-1-3.  His 28 wins were 10th in the WHL.  Engel was named the WHL's Goaltender of the Month for February, 2011 as he posted a 9-2-0-0 record with two shut-outs, a 1.83 GAA and .930 save percentage.

"This was not the way we were expecting to resolve our goaltending situation but feel that the move was necessary," Chiefs General Manager Tim Speltz said.  "Our goal is to still try and find an opportunity for Mac to play in the WHL."

Spokane is now carrying two goaltenders; 19-year-old Eric Williams and 17-year-old Garret Hughson.  The Chiefs are down to 25 players on their roster including eight defensemen and 15 forwards.
