Pirates Off to Best Start Since 2006; Can it Continue?

The Whitworth Pirates are off to their best start since 2006.

They Bucs are a perfect 4-0 to begin the 2012 season. If they want to win another Northwest Conference championship this year, winning their conference opener this weekend at Pacific could go a long way.

"Being 4-0 is great, in the way we've won the games, too," said defensive back Paul Miller. "In all different facets – from special teams, offense carrying us one game, the defense helping us in the Chapman game. I think that just contributes to the confidence in all areas of our team right now."

Coach John Tully said his team hasn't come by a perfect record by chance.

"I've just been so impressed by how hard they continue to work, how hard – you know, they keep doing the right things and I've really appreciated their efforts," said Tully. "Their focus has been great. This week, I mean, [Tuesday] we had one of our better practices. You would think after eight weeks, may not. It was just a Tuesday!"

Saturday's game in Forest Grove, Ore. kicks off at 1 p.m.
