NCAA Investigates Saint Mary's Basketball Program

With college basketball looming on the horizon, multiple sources report the Saint Mary's program is under investigation for alleged recruiting violations.

It is unclear exactly what the Gaels coaches may have done wrong. The NCAA has declined to comment on the case. But three West Coast Conference coaches told ESPN that Gaels coach Randy Bennett was missing from three recruiting evaluation periods.

Bennett did, in fact, undergo back surgery and that could be the reason for his absence. The school's athletic department, however, did not confirm or deny that.

Sources have also said the NCAA has interviewed former Gaels assistant David Patrick. Patrick helped recruit several Saint Mary's players from Australia, including Patty Mills, who now plays in the NBA.
