Washington State may have lost the to No. 17 Stanford on Saturday, but they came away knowing a lot more about themselves than they did going into the game.
The Cougars outgained the Cardinal 385-256 yards. They held running Stepfan Taylor to just 58 yards on 21 carries.
On the other hand, Jeff Tuel was sacked 10 times.
All things considered, the Washington State believes they played the most complete football game of the season.
"We played well, we played hard and we played a complete game," said coach Mike Leach – something he hasn't been able to say all season long. "You know, Stanford played more mature than we did. Their maturity was ahead of us and they won the game. They had that sense – they'd go for the kill, the expectation that we as a team need to get."
"As far as what we can take away from it, we can play with anybody if we play that kind of football," said quarterback Jeff Tuel.
Washington State, still winless in the Pac-12, plays at Utah this coming Saturday. The Utes are coming off a 49-27 thumping of Cal to break a four-game losing streak.
