MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - Idaho opens the 2013 football season with a new coach and a temporary status as an FBS independent.
Paul Petrino is the new coach, replacing the fired Robb Akey, and he immediately set some ambitious goals for the Vandals. Petrino says he wants to win a bunch of games and go to bowls.
This is Petrino's first head coaching job. He is the brother of former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino.
But winning a lot of games will be a challenge this year, as Idaho put together a tough schedule as an independent before joining the Sun Belt Conference next season.
Idaho opens at North Texas on Saturday, and also plays Wyoming, Northern Illinois, Washington State, Fresno State, Mississippi and Florida State this season.
