Hughson's Shutout Leads Chiefs to 4-0 Win

The Chiefs scored early in the first and never looked back as they completed their second consecutive shutout win over the Silvertips 4-0 Tuesday night in front of 3,260 fans at the Spokane Arena. Rookie goaltender Garret Hughson turned away all 22 shots he faced as the Chiefs improved to 9-1-0-0 and 13-6-0-0 overall. Everett and Spokane found goals tough to come by early on as netminders Hughson and Daniel Cotton held serve in the game's opening stanza. The Silvertips nearly got on the board at the 4:15 mark but Ryan Harrison's shot clanged off the right post after sailing over the shoulder of Hughson. The Chiefs went on the power play at 10:47 but were turned away by Cotton and nearly allowed a short handed score had it not been for a spectacular sprawling save from Hughson. Spokane scored the game's first goal at 14:35 as Mikulas Rimmel stole a pass deep in Everett ice, froze Cotton with a great deke, and backhanded the puck in for a score. Rimmel's goal was the only of the period as the Chiefs outshot the Silvertips 16-7. The second period turned into a stalemate as both teams played bend but don't break defense and Hughson and Cotton continued their mastery between the pipes. The Silvertips threatened to tie the game at the 10:10 mark but Hughson made a full extension pad save with his right leg to turn away a shot from Harrison. After their subpar offensive performance in the second, the Chiefs used a relentless offensive barrage in the third to put the game away. The scoring started at 7:36 when Liam Stewart rebounded his own shot and fired a pass across the crease to Connor Chartier who found the back of the net. Spokane's lead stretched to 3-0 just over a minute later as Dylan Walchuk scored a shorthanded goal with an assist from Brenden Kichton. Adam Helewka capped the game's scoring with a top shelf score at 13:27 on assists from Chartier and Jeremy McIntosh. The Chiefs finished 0 for 6 on the power play and 2 for 2 on the power kill while outshooting Everett 31 to 22. The Chiefs are home this weekend to wrap up their six game road homestand with matchups against Kamloops on Friday and Portland on Saturday.
