Hat Trick for Valcourt leads to 5-2 Win for Chiefs

Collin Valcourt completed a hat trick with a last second empty net goal and the Chiefs cruised to a 5-2 win over Vancouver in front of 5,957 fans at the Spokane Arena on Saturday night. Mitch Holmberg and Dylan Walchuk each finished with three points as Spokane ran its record to 6-2-0-0. The first period was controlled by goaltenders as Spokane's Eric Williams turned away all eight of Vancouver's shots. Spokane went three of three on the penalty kill to keep the Giants off the board. Vancouver had their chances, including a shot off the left post from Tristan Sieben at 13:05, but couldn't slip one past the determined Williams. The Chiefs had an equally difficult time with Giants netminder Liam Liston before finally breaking through at 19:18 on a power play goal from Brenden Kichton with assists from Mitch Holmberg and Dylan Walchuk.The Chiefs stretched their advantage to 2-0 in the second on a top shelf goal from Todd Fiddler at 7:47 on assists from Liam Stewart and Blake Gal. Vancouver cut the deficit to 2-1 as Jackson Houck found the back of the net at the 14:06 mark to end the second period scoring.Collin Valcourt got Spokane on the board early in the third with a rebound goal at 1:53 on assists from Walchuk and Holmberg. It was déjà vu for the Chiefs just over eight minutes later, as Valcourt scored again at 10:05 on assists from Walchuk and Holmberg.The Giants got one back at 12:30 as Tanner Moar went five hole to make the score 4-2. Valcourt capped off his hat trick, and the game's scoring, with an empty netter at 19:59.Williams finished the night 20 of 22 on save opportunities while Vancouver's Liston was 25 of 29. Spokane finished two of four on the power play and six of six on the penalty kill.The Chiefs travel to Seattle on Tuesday for a matchup with the Thunderbirds before returning home for the weekend with games against Seattle on Friday and Prince George on Saturday.
