Gonzaga Women Shoot for Ninth-Straight Conference Crown

Coming off a tough loss on Saturday to Washington State, the Gonzaga women are ready to blast off into the WCC season. First on the "To Do" list: San Diego.

The Zags begin their quest for a ninth-straight WCC crown Friday night when they host the Toreros at McCarthey Athletic Center.

Gonzaga swept San Diego last year, winning both games by double digits. But that was last year and this is a new and improved West Coast Conference, believes coach Kelly Graves.

"Our conference is – we're having a great year," said Graves, who noted the conference is No. 7 in the RPI rankings. "The Pac-12 is sixth, so we're right on their heel. I think it speaks well for the depth of our conference. Conference [play] is going to be tough. It's going to be a dogfight each and every night and that's not just a cliché, that's gonna be the reality."

Saturday's game against the Toreros will be broadcast regionally on SWX beginning at 2 p.m. (PT).
