SPOKANE, WA (October 19, 2012) – The Shock have been assigned quarterback Erik Meyer to the 2013 roster. Meyer has agreed to a one-year contract with the Shock for the 2013 AFL season.

Meyer entered the 2012 season as the expected starter for the Shock, but was injured during the first game of the season versus the Iowa Barnstormers and would not return for the remainder of the 2012 season. In 2011, Meyer began the season with the AFL's Utah Blaze before being traded mid-year to the Spokane Shock. In 2009, Erik spent time with the Spokane Shock (af2) where he appeared in two games connecting on 18 of 28 passes for 274 yards, and five touchdowns. Prior to his introduction to the AFL, Erik spent time spent time with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2009), the NFL's Oakland Raiders (2008), Seattle Seahawks (2007), and NFL Europe's Cologne Centurions after signing as an undrafted free agent in the 2006 NFL Draft with the Cincinnati Bengals. Meyer rewrote the record book at Eastern Washington University and was named as the top QB in the program's 100-year history. As an Eagle, Meyer threw for 10,261 yards and 84 touchdowns with only 17 interceptions in 42 games. Meyer was selected as the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Year after both his junior and senior seasons. As a senior in 2005, Meyer won the Walter Payton Award, the equivalent of the Heisman Trophy for FCS programs.

"In his limited time on the field, Meyer has shown all the tools you look for in an elite QB. He's a great leader and is capable of big things," said Shock General Manager Ryan Rigmaiden.
