EVERETT, Wash - A three goal second period by the Seattle Thunderbirds led them a 6-4 victory over the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday afternoon. The Chiefs finished their three game weekend 0-2-0-1.Seattle's Connor Honey scored the games first two goals, at 16:46 of the first and 2:33 of the second, before Spokane got on the board with a Liam Stewart tally. The 19-year-old scored at 13:58 of the middle frame but Seattle got their two goal lead back just 30-seconds later when Keegan Kolesar scored to make it a 3-1 game.The Thunderbirds Nolan Volcan then scored at 15:51 for a 4-1 lead. The Chiefs' Carter Proft found the back of the net with just 1.2 seconds left in the period for a 4-2 game through 40-minutes.Seattle extended their lead to 5-2 2:43 into the third with a Mitch Elliot goal.A pair of power play goals by Spokane in a 2:03 span pulled the Chiefs back within one. Markson Bechtold scored one, at 6:59, and set up Tyson Predinchuk's at 9:02. Keanu Yamamoto had assists on both. The 16-year-old Spokane native had four assists in three games over the weekend.Matt Sozanski, a seventh round pick in 2011 from Calgary, Alberta, had assists on Spokane's first two goals and finished the weekend with a goal and two assists in two games. Sixteen-year-old Tyson Verhelst, Spokane's third round selection in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, made the start and stopped 11 shots in 13 chances. Garret Hughson played the second half of the game and made 11 saves in 14 opportunities. The Chiefs were 2-9 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill. Spokane held a 40-28 shot advantage, including 16-8 in the third.The Chiefs will take Monday off before practices at Eagles Ice-A-Rena Tuesday through Thursday. Spokane will play Friday, against Kootenay, and Saturday versus Tri-City in the Americans annual Red Lion Hotels Pre-Season Tournament.
