Bone Likes Cougs' Stats, But Can WSU Beat Washington?

It has been six weeks since Washington State beat Washington in the Apple Cup. Now it is the basketball team's turn to keep the winning ways going.

The Cougars host the Huskies in Pullman on Saturday for the first Pac-12 game of the season.

As they head into the game, Washington State has been playing some of their best basketball of the season, with four straight wins. And they have won seven of their last eight games.

Even with the numbers on their side, though, coach Ken Bone believes the verdict is still out on his team.

"We've had a good start statistically," said Bone. "But a lot of that is determined on who we've played. I think we've done some good things and I like our guys' attention to details on the defensive end, but we have room to improve."

Those teams Washington State have beaten include the likes of Idaho State, Jackson State, Fresno State and Buffalo. They also beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Utah Valley, Idaho, Eastern Washington and Portland. Their four losses have come against Pepperdine, Kansas, Texas A&M and Gonzaga.

Saturday's game against the Huskies could set the tone for the rest of the season. The game starts at 6:40 p.m. and can be seen on ESPNU.
