Boise State beats Louisiana-Lafayette 63-57

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Derrick Marks scored 14 points, Mikey Thompson added 13 and Boise State defeated Louisiana-Lafayette 63-57 on Sunday afternoon.

Anthony Drmic scored all 11 of his points in the second half and the Broncos have started 3-0 for the third consecutive season. Elfrid Payton and Alan-Michael Thompson scored 12 points apiece for Louisiana-Lafayette (1-2).

Boise State used a 9-0 run over a nearly seven-minute stretch of the second half to take control.

The Broncos trailed 52-50 with 7:50 remaining after a basket by Louisiana-Lafayette's Bryant Mbamalu. Drmic hit a go-ahead 3-pointer 26 seconds later to start the decisive run as the Ragin' Cajuns didn't score again until Thompson's basket with 55 seconds left.

Boise State jumped out to a 20-6 lead less than 11 minutes into the game before the Ragin' Cajuns rolled off 19 straight points over a seven-minute span to take a 5-point lead. Louisiana-Lafayette led 28-26 at halftime.

The Broncos began the second half with an 11-6 run and had a 37-34 lead after Mikey Thompson's 3-pointer with 16:05 remaining.

Louisiana-Lafayette answered with a 10-2 spurt with Payton scoring five points and Mbamalu connecting on a 3-pointer to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 44-42 lead.

Boise State's Igor Hadziomerovic tied the contest at 50-50 on a driving basket with 8:21 to play before Mbamalu provided Louisiana-Lafayette with its final lead.

The Ragin' Cajuns then missed nine consecutive shots before Alan-Michael Thompson's basket with under a minute to play. Louisiana-Lafayette pulled with 61-57 on a layup by Steven Wronkoski with 9.9 seconds remaining before Marks made two free throws with eight seconds left for the final margin.

Jeff Elorriaga grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds as Boise State held a 41-29 edge on the boards, including 14 on the offensive end.

The Broncos shot just 38.9% and committed 16 turnovers but were strong on the defensive end.

Louisiana-Lafayette started the game 1 for 11 from the field and was 2 for 14 before its impressive 19-0 run. The Ragin' Cajuns shot 37% for the game, including 5 of 20 from 3-point range.

Shawn Long had just four points and three rebounds in 16 minutes before fouling out. Long averaged 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in Louisiana-Lafayette's first two contests.
