Boise St sees stability, money key to MWC deal

By TODD DVORAKAssociated Press

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Boise State President Bob Kustra says the decision to rejoin the Mountain West Conference came down to money, stability and flexibility.

Kustra announced Monday that Boise State was pulling its football team out of the Big East Conference. The Broncos were scheduled to begin playing in the Big East next season and had already scheduled games against those teams.

But Kustra says uncertainty with the Big East's future and other factors forced university officials to reconsider.

What emerged is a unique deal with the Mountain West that for now guarantees Boise State more revenue and the ability to negotiate its own television deal.

Returning to the MWC also allows all Broncos teams to stay in one conference. Next year, non-football teams were set to join the Big West Conference.
