Baldwin Trying to Keep Players Calm Ahead of Rivalry Game

One conference win is good. Two would be better, and a win over Montana would be best for the Eastern Eagles.

Eastern Washington hosts Montana on Saturday at Roos Field in Cheney.

It is no secret the two teams have a long-standing rivalry. This will be the eleventh time in 17 years the two programs have played each other. Montana has the 7-3 edge in the overall series.

So, while most coaches are getting their players excited for the upcoming game, coach Beau Baldwin is doing the exact opposite.

"A lot of times we're saying ‘hey, make sure we get our guys up…', but the issue is making sure our guys breathe," said Baldwin. "Breathe on Saturday, relax, do what we've done, just play like we've practiced and we'll be fine."

The Grizzlies are coming off a rare home loss, having lost to Northern Arizona last week in Missoula. That loss sent Montana plummeting in the polls from No. 14 to No. 21. NAU, meanwhile, showed up at No. 22.

Saturday's game will be carried on ROOT Sports.
