AFL News: Another AFL Franchise Bites the Dust

The Milwaukee Mustangs are going to keep the horses in the barn this season. The AFL team said Thursday it would sit out the 2013 season.

Team ownership said it would retain its AFL franchise and try to come back in 2014.

The Journal Sentinel in Milwaukee quoted a team spokesman as saying:

"The Mustangs had an aggressive marketing investment and will continue to contribute to the league during the dormancy, as well as sustain their presence in the community. We will come back with a solid sponsor base for the 2014 season so we can deliver the best entertainment value to our fans."

The Mustangs were part of the East Division of the American Conference, along with Philadelphia, Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Kansas City Command folded over the summer. And another team, the Georgia Force, also appears to be in trouble. WXIA in Georgia reported in September that attempts to find a local owner for the team were not going well. The team's website has been shut down and WXIA said its offices are vacant.
