AP Newsbreak: Dems blast $1.1M anti-Mourdock ad

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is spending $1.1 million to keep Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock's comments about pregnancy resulting from rape in front of Indiana voters.

The new ad, which begins airing Thursday, replays comments Mourdock made during a Tuesday debate that quickly dominated the tossup Senate battle in Indiana. The Democrats also air statements from the campaigns of Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney and Indiana gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence distancing themselves from Mourdock.

The DSCC spot will run through Election Day. A Democratic source tracking ad buys nationally spoke about the new ad on condition of anonymity because the DSCC does not like to discuss strategy.

Indiana's Senate seat is a must-win for Republicans if they are to retake the Senate in November.
