Woman Says She Was Kidnapped, Duct Taped, Shot At In Woods

SPOKANE, Wash – It's a terrifying story of a woman who says she was kidnapped, duct taped and shot at in the woods last month.  Court documents just filed in the last few days recount the woman's alleged trauma, and her escape.

The woman, who KHQ will not name, reported to police she was kidnapped at a home in Spokane by two men who had guns in late August.  They duct taped her wrists, ankles and mouth, and forced her into the back of a car.

They drove for an hour, and let her out in the woods outside of Springdale, Washington in Stevens County.  The woman reported she was told to walk, and as she did, the men fired shots at her; luckily she wasn't hit.

The woman walked a mile or two to a rural home on the edge of the woods, and knocked on the door for help.

"Obviously she was in distress and scared and hurt," Janet Thornton told KHQ.  She and her husband were home that day in late August, and answered their door to find the woman shaken, dirty, and crying.

"She was just so shook up," she said.  "She was shaking and just obviously shaken up."

Thornton and her husband tried to calm her down, but knew something wasn't right.

"I kind of put my arm around her and tried to talk to her a little bit and find out how badly hurt she was," she recalled.

The couple called police, and court documents show police interviewed the kidnapping victim in their home before taking her to the hospital.

The victim told police the two men said they were going to kill her, and hit her with their guns.

"She just kept saying they were really bad man, really bad people is I think how she said it," Thornton said.  "I felt bad that she was so upset and certainly concerned that something was seriously wrong with her."

Police served a search warrant on the car the woman was kidnapped in, and found duct tape and shell casings nearby.

Spokane Police are still investigating the case, along with the Stevens County Sheriff's Office.  Police say the woman knows her attackers, and one of their suspects is already in jail on unrelated charges.  They're still looking for the second.
