**Press Release From Spokane Police Department**
SPOKANE, Wash. - The South Hill Great Clips employees called police Thursday evening to report a robbery. According to victim employees, the suspect parked her car outside the store. She went inside and after several minutes, she threatened the employees with "mace", and then ran out of the store with the money. The employees were able to provide responding officers with the suspect's description as well as the vehicle description.
Responding K9 Ofc. Dan Lesser located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near 10th and Adams. The suspect, Melissa D. Tschanz, pulled over and gave Ofc. Lesser her Hawaiian driver's license. The vehicle's license plate did not match the car, but the driver's license was current. During the traffic stop, Tschanz decided to flee and Ofc. Lesser pursued her. Tschanz refused to stop for police and took several exits indicating she was headed for the Spokane Airport. Concerned for the safety of citizens at the nearby airport, he disabled her vehicle pushing it into a guardrail. Tschanz was taken into custody without injuries.
Further investigation showed Tschanz had rented the vehicle from a company near the airport but at some point had put phony license plates on the car. Tschanz was arrested for 1st Degree Robbery and Attempting to Elude law enforcement.
