UPDATE: On Friday a suspect, 31-year-old Vincent Salazar, led local law enforcement on high speed chase in a stolen Toyota Camry through west Spokane and south Spokane county. It started at Freya and 5th where the suspect saw the Spokane police officer following him and went to the interstate.
At that point, Washington State Patrol took over and followed the stolen Camry up to Northern Quest Casino. The chase then went back toward Spokane on Government Way. Officers laid a spike strip down at Fort Wright. The suspect drove over it but continued driving. He then led officers down Highway 195, driving on his rims. In fact, he lost one of his rims and was driving on his car frame for about 2 miles.
The chase lasted about 30 minutes and reached speeds of around 90 mph. The chased ended near Stentz & Hwy. 195. Salazar led police on a foot chase through a wooded area off the side of the highway. Officers with the Spokane Police Department apprehended Salazar.
No injuries have been reported and no damage from the chase occurred. At one point 15 police cars were chasing the suspect.
Salazar has a misdemeanor warrant for driving while intoxicated and is a convicted felon. His felonies include possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm.
Salazar most likely will get charged with possession of stolen vehicle, malicious mischief and eluding police officers. One Washington State Patrol officer said that the coordination between WSP, SPD, and the Sheriff's Department made the difference in this rare, lengthy police chase.
