SPOKANE, Wash. – According to Spokane Police Crime Statistics, vehicle thefts are up more than 15% in the seven days since a homeowner shot at and killed a fleeing car thief.
The week before Gail Gerlach shot and killed Brandon Kaluza-Graham there were 39 vehicle theft reports. The week after, there were 45 vehicle theft incidents.
According to a crime map put together by the Spokane Police Department, there is a high concentration of car thefts in northeast Spokane near Crestline and Buckeye, as well as Wellesley and Market.
Also included in the report is information about crime in Spokane for the past month including burglary hot spots as well as where your vehicle is most likely to be recovered if it's stolen.
