UPDATE: Near Drowning Victim Still In The Hospital

SPIRIT LAKE, Idaho – One teenage boy remains in critical condition Thursday night after a near drowning accident on Spirit Lake Wednesday afternoon.

Another teenage boy is home with his family after trying to rescue his friend.

Kootenai County emergency officials say 15-year-old Nathan Theirs and 16-year-old August Marksworth were in a shallow part of the lake when Marksworth lost his footing and fell into a portion about eight feet deep.

Marksworth can't swim, so Theirs tried to save his friend, but Marksworth was struggling so much that both boys were in danger of going down.

Theirs swam to shore to get help as Marksworth sank to the bottom of the lake.

A kayaker was able to pull the boy out about four minutes later.

He was flown to the Intensive Care Unit at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
