UPDATE: Intruder Stabs Dog In Hillyard Home

UPDATE: The man accused of the home invasion as well as stabbing the dog has been identified by Spokane Police as Roger Mendenhall, 42.

He was arrested and charged with First Degree Burglary, Second Degree Assault and Second Degree animal cruelty.

Chance, the three-year-old pitbull mix that was injured during the incident was taken to an emergency clinic for a single stab wound to the neck. He is in critical condition, but expected to survive.

SPOKANE, Wash. - Police are investigating a home invasion that caused a dog to be stabbed.

It happened just after 6:00pm Wednesday night in the Hillyard neighborhood of E. Diamond Ave. and N. Regal St. Police tell us the man stabbed the dog because he said it bit him. The home owner then started a fight with the stabber, and ends up stabbing the intruder.

The dog was taken to an emergency pet hospital. The intruder was taken to a local hospital.
