UPDATE: Friend Of Woman Accused Of Animal Cruelty Speaks Out

SPOKANE, Wash. - The City of Spokane Prosecutors Office is moving forward with prosecution of an upsetting case of animal cruelty. Laneva M. Erskine was arraigned on nine counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty Wednesday afternoon.

Erskine's friend gives KHQ a different story though.

Paula Lagerquist said that Erskine loves animals and would never do anything to hurt them. Lagerquist said that she even pays SpokAnimal to take care of four of her dogs, hoping she can get them back.

According to SpokAnimal, Erskine does pay $20 a day to have her four dogs boarded at the shelter since February 8th. She has paid over $3000 for those four dogs.

SpokAnimal also said that it would be up to the courts if she could even get the dogs back.

Lagerquist also said that people dropped off a lot of the animals at Erskine's house and left.

Lagerquist said that the animal cruelty is not Erskine's fault.

"I have seen animals that have come up here that were barely had any life left in them and I watched her trying to give them water and try to save them and find homes for them," Lagerquist said.
