SPOKANE INVESTIGATIVE REGIONAL RESPONSE TEAM UPDATE: On Friday evening, October 19, 2012, Stevens County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a suicidal call near the intersection of Long Prairie and Deer Crk. Road. Deputies arrived on scene and contacted the suspect. Ultimately deputies fired one round killing the suspect. The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team was requested by the Stevens County Sheriff's Office to investigate the shooting. Investigators spent Saturday collecting evidence from the scene. On Monday, October 22, 2012, The Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy on the suspect. Cause of death was determined to be from a single gunshot wound. The Stevens County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the suspect at a later time. Investigators will be interviewing the two deputies involved in the shooting this week. VALLEY, Wash. - The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team is assisting the Stevens County Sheriff's Office with the investigation of an officer-involved shooting that happened Friday night.
A press release issued by the Stevens County Sheriff's Office says that at around 10:50 p.m. Friday, the dispatch center received a call from a suicidal male in the 3600 block of Deer Creek Road, just north of Springdale. Deputies arrived on scene, a shot was fired, and the man was hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
The deputies were not injured in the incident.
The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave.
