UPDATE: The deceased man found by 2 hikers has been identified as 50-year-old Lee Francis Finkbonner.
PRESS RELEASE FROM SPOKANE VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT:
Yesterday, August 14th, 2013, at 3:45 p.m., hikers near the area commonly referred to as climbing rock on Upriver Drive, east of Upriver Dam, located a deceased male in the woods. Sheriff's Deputies responded and secured the scene until Major Crimes Detectives and Forensics took over the investigation.
Any time the Sheriff's Office investigates an unattended death, an investigation is completed to rule out any criminal activity. After the investigation at the scene was complete, the deceased male was released to the Spokane County Medical Examiner's Office. An autopsy will be performed and their office will provide the identity and cause of death at a later time.
SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body near climbing rocks on Upriver Drive east of the Upriver Dam. Sheriff's deputies say the body was found by two hikers at John Shields Park Wednesday afternoon.
Right now the park is closed and detectives are on scene investigating. Right now they are treating this as a homicide until they can rule it out. The park will remain closed for the next few hours.
Investigators are releasing very little information at this point. So far all we know is the body found is a man. Once the man's body is removed the medical examiner will perform an autopsy looking for any foul play.
