UPDATE: Coeur d'Alene Stabbing Suspect STILL On The Loose

UPDATE: In 1989 Kountz was
arrested and charged with murder in California. He was convicted of involuntary
manslaughter. He was also arrested back on May 25th in CDA for stabbing another
man, he was charged with battery. Police believe he lived in a transient camp
just north of Canfield Ave. in CDA.

COEUR d' ALENE, Idaho - A stabbing suspect is on the loose, according to the Idaho State Police and other law enforcement agencies.
The victim emerged from the woods near Highway 95 and Wilbur Ave. around 6:00pm Monday. He collapsed in the highway median. Law enforcement from Coeur d'Alene police, Idaho State Police, and Kootenai County Sheriffs quickly responded and shut down Highway 95 from Canfield Ave. to Prairie Ave. in order to search for the suspect. A helicopter was also called in to assist.
The victim was able to give police a description of the attacker. Police tell KHQ that he is 56-year-old James Kountz. They say he is armed and dangerous. This is not believed to be a random incident.
Police are asking residents in the area to stay inside and lock the doors and windows as they continue to search for Kountz.
Highway 95 is now back open.
The condition of the victim at this hour is unknown.
