Spokane Valley Fire Department Press Release:
Units from the Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a brush fire reported at 2:03 PM located near Liberty Lake Regional Park Saturday. Initial 9-1-1 callers reported seeing smoke in the area southeast of Liberty Lake and Valley Engine 3 was dispatched. A Sheriff's Deputy reported the smoke was coming from south of the Liberty Lake campground resulting in additional units being dispatched.
The first arriving crews from stations #3 and #4 took immediate action to extinguish the main body of the fire involving trees and light brush. The steep terrain and distance from a road made the fire difficult to access. Air units from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) were called in for support. Additional DNR units and a water tender from Fire District 8 were also dispatched to assist firefighting operations.
A total of 7 Spokane Valley units, 1 Fire District #8 unit, and 14 DNR units, including 2 air assets were used to fight the fire. Sheriff's Deputies, S.E.R.T. and a Park Ranger were helpful in traffic control and evacuations.
As of Saturday night, the fire was 75% contained and is estimated to be approximately 10 acres. Crews worked through the night to complete the containment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
The Spokane Valley Fire Department would like to remind everyone that you should have an evacuation plan in place in the event of a wild fire.

LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. - Firefighters in Liberty Lake are battling a brush fire on the east side of Liberty Lake near Lakeside Road and Zephyr Road.
Spokane Valley Firefighters, along with Fire District #8 are fighting the flames. Washington DNR is dropping water and a foam mist on the fire in an effort to contain it.
The fire is about a mile away from a campground, but so far the campground has not been evacuated.
Right now we are told the fire is about 2 acres in size and slow moving, but the location is making access difficult for crews. However crews on scene say if the conditions stay the same, the fire should be extinguished by nightfall.
There are no structures threatened at this time.
