'They're Hardworking And Incredibly Loving,' Mentor Says Of Assault Suspect Family

SPOKANE, Wash. - Shane Thompson's relationship with Avondre Graham's family started about one year ago when his brother Devon started to go to the Youth for Christ Youth Center on Market and Hoffman in Hillyard. Thompson tried for a long while to get Avondre to come and hang out with other students, and finally he agreed. Thompson spoke with KHQ about the Graham he says he knew and "the love he had for his family."

"I got to see a kid who loves his family, who wants to make a difference in the world and is learning how to do that," Thompson said. "Somebody who wants to pursue schooling in any way that he can and somebody who wants to be a big brother to Devon in any way that he can."

Graham is one of several kids and they all live with their mother. Thompson said he got to know her as well and he hopes that the community can still give them a chance.

"They're hardworking and they're incredibly loving. Stephanie will do anything for her kids," Thompson said. The fact that she loves and cares for those kids is so far beyond any trials that could come their way. When I look at that family, I look at a family who just loves each other ,who is staying together and who works together to get through life."
