Spokane Police Department Press Release:
Spokane Police Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at the Special K Tavern. Officers that responded to the scene discovered there were two victims and that the suspect had fled on foot. Other responding Officers located the suspect several blocks away and arrested him.
On September 8th, at approximately 2:28 am, Spokane Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a stabbing at the Special K Tavern at 3817 N. Market. The caller stated that a male stabbed another person and fled southbound on foot. Corporal Blaine Kakuda arrived first on the scene.
He discovered one male victim with a very serious knife wound to his neck, and a second male victim with a knife wound to the left side of his head. Witnesses confirmed the suspect fled southbound. Officer Joe Dotson was responding to the call and he located a person matching the suspect description at Market and Courtland.
Officer Dotson saw him throw a knife into the nearby field. When he attempted to detain this person, he was belligerent and uncooperative. Witnesses at the scene stated that the suspect and the victims had got into an argument in the parking lot, and then the suspect suddenly began stabbing the victims. Witnesses identified the person Officer Dotson stopped as being the suspect.
This person was identified as Donald L. Dyson, a 42 year old male from Spokane. Dyson was booked into the Spokane County Jail for two counts of First Degree Assault. Officers located the knife and it was found to have blood on it as well. Both victims were transported for treatment to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
