SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - Firefighters from across the country are heading to Colorado to help battle one of the state's worst-ever natural disasters, including four firefighters from Spokane Valley.
Captains Jon Sprague and Scott Crawford, along with firefighters Jeff Miner and Jeff Willits left early Friday morning for Colorado Springs where they will assist in fighting the Waldo Canyon Fire, which has burned 26 square miles so far.
Spokane Valley Fire Marshal Kevin Miller says these men won't be on the fire lines, but at the command posts helping out with planning as well as working as information officers.
They will be working in Colorado for 14 days. Spokane Valley is happy to be helping out firefighters from another state because one day they might need it in return.
The Waldo Canyon fire has killed on person and destroyed nearly 350 homes. It is now 25% contained.
