Spokane Valley Couple Stages Public Protest After Theft Of Storage Unit

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A local woman, her son, and a friend are protesting a Spokane Valley storage facility after they say the company didn't provide details as to why or how a thief emptied their storage unit last month.

Lyn Smith, her son Austin and her friend Tyler Allen paced the sidewalk, holding signs, outside of Secure It Self Storage at 11018 E. Sprague on Thursday to raise awareness about a company they claim has not been helpful since the theft.

Smith said she kept a 4-wheeler, street bike, four tires with rims, a BBQ, and several DVDs inside the storage unit until June 26, when she said a thief emptied the entire unit.

Smith went to the managers for an explanation but claims they were not helpful. She said they did not provide any details about the thief's get-away car and said that an employee told her the cameras "went down for an hour" while the theft occurred.

The manager adamantly denies her story and said his security surveillance never stopped running. In fact, he said he turned that footage over to police to investigate. The manager of Secure-It Self Storage in the Valley location did not want to make an on-camera statement. He argued that it was Smith's responsibility to have renter's insurance.
