SPOKANE, Wash. - Competitors from across the globe are in Spokane this week to earn the title of world accordion champion. The World Accordion Championships is in the United States for the first time this year and the city of Spokane is the host. Forty-eight musicians from 19 countries are competing in seven different divisions.
The divisions range from classical to variety-type music. Organizers say it is very rare for competitors from the United States to qualify for the championships, but this year there are five, including four from Spokane. The event is from October 23rd to October 28th, and is being held at the Bing Crosby Theater.
