Potential 'Pot Tourists' From Idaho Heading To Washington To Buy And Use Marijuana?

COEUR d' ALENE, Idaho - Law enforcement says it will be watching and still busting those in legal possession of marijuana in Washington who cross the state line in to Idaho. State, local and county law enforcement say despite Washington's new I-502, legalizing a small amount of marijuana, Idaho state law will remain unchanged as well as enforcement.

According to Idaho state law if you posses 3oz of marijuana or less it is classified as a misdemeanor and is punishable by up to one year in jail and or a $1,000 dollar fine.

Anything more than 3oz is considered a felony and could make you go broke paying thousands of dollars in fines, or spend a few extra years behind bars. However Kootenai county authorities have expressed concern about the new I-502 potentially making arrest rates go up in the county or making people think its "ok" to smoke pot in Idaho being a Washington resident. The fact is, its not.

According to Idaho state law enforcement medical marijuana seizures already make up a portion of seized drugs in the state. Montana, Oregon and Nevada have legal use of medical marijuana which all boarder Idaho.
