Police Searching For Shooting Suspect In N. Spokane

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE SPOKANE POLICE DEPT: Spokane Police are searching for the suspect in a north Spokane shooting incident that happened last night. Witnesses say a man broke into an apartment exchanged gunfire with the occupants and fled on foot.

Despite quick response and the use of a K9 search team, the suspect is at large. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Check 456-2233.

Just after 9pm Thursday night Spokane Police Patrol Officers responded to a shooting at the Hill N. Dale apartment complex near Colton and Magnesium in North Spokane.

Victims told detectives a man broke through a sliding glass door, armed with a gun. The teens inside the apartment yelled for their dad, who was in another room. The man in his 50's grabbed his own firearm and confronted the suspect. Shots were exchanged between the two and the suspect fled. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

Responding officers utilized a K9 to search for the suspect, as well as numerous officers. The suspect description given to officers by the victims is very limited at this time, he is described simply as a male. No one has been arrested in connection with this shooting, and the motive remains unclear.

Detectives are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with any information to please call Crime Check at 456-2233.

UPDATE: According to the Department of Corrections, the victim in last night's shooting is not a Department of Corrections Officer. The employee is contract staff at Brownstone. To clarify, the Department of Corrections contracts out Pioneer Human Services to run the Brownstone Work Release program. Therefore, the employee is contract staff for Pioneer Human Services, which runs Brownstone Work Release.   UPDATE: We're told the victim, who has still not been identified, is out of surgery and is expected to survive. UPDATE: Spokane Police tell KHQ that the suspect, who remains on the loose, shattered the back sliding door and shot the victim. The victim was shot with a handgun in the abdomen just below the ribs. Police also say that the victim also fired a shot. The relationship between the shooter and the suspect remains unclear. Children were inside of the home at the time of the shooting, they were not hurt. Gun smoke was still in the air when officers arrived on the scene, authorities say this indicates multiple shots were fired. Detectives remain on the scene as officers try and track down the suspect. The victim's injuries are life threatening.
