Police Bust Vehicle Crime Spree

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane police busted what they described as a significant "vehicle theft crime spree."

Police arrested 32-year-old Anthony Carson and 22-year-old Felisha Vanzandt for prowling and stealing cars throughout the area.  Prosecutors charged both with multiple counts of taking a motor vehicle without permission.

Investigators say thieves targeted apartment complexes and retirement communities on Upriver Drive in Spokane due to so many cars in one place they can prowl.

Court records show Anthony Carson and Felisha Vandsant admitted to breaking into and stealing several cars all over the city as well as the valley.

Records show they would prowl the cars, and then steal them with shaved keys or special tools.  Then they would often drive the cars across town and ditch them somewhere or try to sell them.

Their crime spree came to an end when police pulled them over while driving stolen cars.  They're now both charged with multiple counts of "taking a motor vehicle without permission."

Police recovered several of the stolen vehicles and were able to return them to their rightful owners.
