SPOKANE, Wash. - The pipe organ of St. Aloysius has been offered time and talent by the Spokane and Gonzaga community. Installed by the Kilgen company in 1927, it is in need of on-going maintenance in order to continue to create the beautiful and authentic sounds of a real pipe organ.
Students have donated hundreds of hours in general maintenance in order to keep the organ in shape but more work is needed. The organ has over 2000 pipes and even more moving parts. These components need specialized attention and the parish is having a tough time finding the funds to properly maintain the delicate work. Specialized work only of artisans of the craft can perform.
In addition to the many hours of laborious work put in to the preservation of the organ, two students and one graduate have taken an extra step in its care. Tyler Pattison, Robert Carr and Richard Grablin organized a free public concert at the church Friday night.
