Okanogan County Sheriff's Office: Missing Man Found Dead

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE OKANOGAN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: On 11-07-12 several volunteers continued to search for 50-year-old Christopher Campbell in Conconully area. The Okanogan County Search and Rescue along with Deputies used a boat to search various waterways in the area. At around 1:30 PM Wednesday a search found a broken tree limb and glass at the far north end of the upper reservoir of Conconully Lake.

The boat patrol was able to get to the end of the lake and could see what appeared to be tire tracks at the bottom of a 40 foot embankment. As the boat was moving through the mill foil, oil appeared on the water surface.

Search and rescue divers were called to the area and located Mr. Campbell's vehicle in approximately 12 feet of water about 300 feet from end of the lake. Mr. Campbell's body was also located in his vehicle.

It appears that Mr. Campbell had been returning to his camp at Fish Lake when something happened and he drove off the edge of road, went down the 40 foot embankment and sank in the lake.

The vehicle and Mr. Campbell were removed from the lake at around 4:00 PM yesterday. Family has on scene when Mr. Campbell was located. An autopsy has been scheduled for Mr. Campbell.
