PRESS RELEASE FROM THE GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE: A Mattawa man is jailed for suspicion of sexually assaulting one of his children. This information is written to protect the identities of any and all victims, and therefore specific information regarding the suspect and the victims is excluded. Grant County Deputies and Fire District 8 EMTs were called around 8:30 p.m. Nov. 10 after a woman said her child had been raped at a home in the city of Mattawa. Deputies learned the woman and her husband had been involved in a domestic violence incident and the woman fled to a relative's nearby home to seek help. She returned a short time later to discover evidence her young daughter (under the age of 10) had been sexually assaulted. The woman called 9-1-1. Three Deputies arrived and attempted to arrest the woman's husband on suspicion of the assault. During their efforts to gain control of him, the husband initially refused to open the home's door. Deputies entered the home, and the husband continued to disobey Deputies' further commands. Deputies were forced to twice use a Tazer to subdue him. That man is now lodged in the Grant County Jail on suspicion of first degree rape of a child. The girl was rushed by ambulance to a Yakima hospital where she underwent surgery for her injuries. Another child (under the age of 10) living in the home was also taken to a Yakima hospital for unspecified injuries. Detectives are investigating. This is the extent of public information to be released today regarding this investigation.
