Obituary Burglars On The Rise

SPOKANE, WASH. - Spokane Police arrested a man this week they believe is connected to a late September burglary on the 2800 block of West Lyons in Spokane. Earlier this month another man was arrested after he was involved in a hit and run, then a deputy found a gun under his seat. That gun led them back to the home where the burglary occurred on West Lyons.

The man involved in the hit and run, Joseph Sizemore, bought the gun from Michael Sisneroz. Police believe Sisneroz was involved in the burglary and that is why he was arrested earlier this week. The burglary at the home on West Lyons occurred while the homeowner was at her husband's funeral. They took a whole bunch of things out of the house, including antiques and valuables. They also took her husband's wedding ring.

Detectives believe that she was burglarized because of her husband's online obituary and this type of burglary is something that we have learned more about in recent weeks. Police say they know how difficult it is when a loved one loses their life and they know you probably want to make a public notice to ensure people show for their memorial service.

Police say if you are leaving town after a death in the family, encourage neighbors to watch over your house. Police say criminals are aware, they look for indicators that you are out of town. Some of those items could be an obituary in the paper, a newspaper or garbage left in front. Criminals are always looking for crimes of opportunity.
