A north Idaho woman who ran for legislature last year has started an initiative to raise the federal minimum wage in Idaho from $7.25 to $9.80 over the next four years.
The challenge is daunting and very great. In fact, Idaho legislature tried to pass something very similar during the 2013 session, and it failed. Idaho is one of 21 states that enforces the federal minimum wage of $7.25 , but the woman starting the initiative, Anne Nesse is confident they will get this issue on the ballot.
84,000 signatures are needed to get higher minimum wage on the ballot. Nesse says this is an issue that affects everyone across the economic spectrum, not just those making minimum wage. She plans to begin canvassing as soon as possible.
